Born and brought up in India, Obul did his Ph.D. in Cloud Computing and Big Data from University of Florida. His passions include Data, Data Science, Cloud, Big Data, Internet of Things, Bitcoin, Blockchain, Drones, Robotics and Open Source. He worked on OpenStack at Rackspace, on Aurora RDS at Amazon AWS and on Internet of Things at DAIICT. He was a core contributor to OpenStack Poppy. At present, he works at Nike as an Expert Engineer on Business Intelligence and Big Data working on many things including Data Science, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, TensorFlow, AWS, Google Cloud, Hadoop, Spark and Kafka.

Worked on xMax, a real-time data and voice protocol. Designed, developed and tested the xMax logging, a Linux kernel module, to report network status and statistics to /proc.
Did board level and Wi-Fi testing on BlackBerry smartphones; Wrote python scripts to extract failures from logs and analyzed them to root cause the calibration issues.
Head of the Satellite Networks Lab at University of Florida. Lead FUNSAT V and VI satellite design competitions held by NASA and bagged first prize in FUNSAT-V. Head of the Embedded Systems and Sensor Networks Research Lab. Lead WildCENSE and Tiger Image Sensor Network projects with teams of size 6 and 4. Built CENSE sensor network. Developed WCFFS flash file system and wrote several device drivers. Developed and implemented a grid based localization technique using signal strength from radio base stations.
